The Coffin is hand buildt and decorated...
The Relief Society sisters pre-make several mats .....
They are layered...
With a painted tapa cloth layered on the top...
Then neatly rolled....
These items along with food donated from the Branch members, are delivered to the family of the deceased. This is called a"gathering."
Baked goods are also brought ...
Along with Dalo, oil, sugar, flour ect...
This is the formal presentation of these items.
A whale's tooth ceremony is held as the gifts are presented...
The items are beautifully arranged...
The females gather to pay respects to the female family member's...
The men do the same in another area...
Then everyone meets for refreshments....
The funeral will be the next day.....
The next morning we see repairs being made to a neighbourhood Bure.....
The funeral service is at the chapel...
Then moves to the grave site...
Beautiful flower tributes have been made....
Many little children carry these.....
The coffin is lowered into the ground....
While the dirt is being placed the choir sings hymns...
A Rock base is placed......
The tapa cloth placed, a frame is made from tree boughs ....
Flowers placed....
The children place their flowers...
A very beautiful and respectful dedication of the grave.....
Stripped fabric decorates the grave site....
After one hundred nights, a permanent headstone will be placed....
Much thought and Love is shown by family and friends......
Kind , Thoughtful, Loving Sisters...
Fijians are a wonderful people....
This Tribute of Love was beautifully demonstrated by the actions family and friends.
A Feast was then prepared...
A great Fijian feast....
