March 28th

Taveuni

After a flight from Suva to Labasa. We were picked at the airport by Elder and Sister Woodward. Then we drove with the Woodwards to Sava Sava.  We then met Elder and Sister Roth and stayed overnight with them, the humanitarian team, then onto the ferry with President Harwood and his wife  to Taveuni island. We were met by some awesome young Elders. who had a 4x4 truck waiting for us.
We have been meeting lots of wonderful people who have very interesting names.   The people are very poor. A refreshment of clean water is a treat for them. We have been asked by the Roth's to watch for humanitarian needs such as  water purification and water tanks, school and medical needs as we work with the people. The Church is installing 2 new water facilties on the island right now.
After 2 days on the island we  found our where the church units are located and have met some of the young elders and sisters and some of the members too.
We have moved into a  beautiful home. One of the nicest in the entire mission located on a hill with a beautiful view of the ocean. Many around us have small houses off the ground, with 1-2 or more families per home. Some with no doors and clothes lines hanging from open windows.
Our truck is right hand drive and you shift with your left hand. We drive on the left side to of the road. The roads are not all paved on this island, some are very narrow bumpy dirt roads. The people don't seem to mind . They are always smiling and wave at us.They seem to have been waiting for us to come!  They are so excited to see us when we come.
Tomorrow is Sunday, it will be a conference in two of the  branches we will be a attending. A branch is a smaller group than a ward of people. They have 4 branches on this island.
We have been shopping and settling in. It is very warm and Beautiful.
