Summertime Fun in Fiji!

Morning mists over the Islands across Somosomo Strait.

This doctor, who helped us with the last few missionary medical papers, accepted an invitation to the Temple open house in Fiji!
Sister Anjina Chand and her Uncle came with us to the hospital to fill out  her mission papers.
Elder Vermeeren holds piñata #1.

Elder Vermeeren loves giving out lollies!

At Sister Malito's Ward Farewell party we hung the train  piñata.

Sister Malito (centre) will be leaving our island Tuesday to help at the Temple open house and then home to Australia . She has completed 18 months of missionary service.

Ward members have gathered to say goodbye!

They made a lovely dinner...
We gathered for a special farewell..

Ward member paid tribute  to Sister Malito, followed by a few words from Sister Malito .

Then we lined up the children according to size.
They each tried to hit the piñata three times.

Elder Vermeeren used a pulley to keep it out of reach...
This was a new experience for the children here in Fiji!
So much fun for everyone!

This was our Heavy Hitter who popped the piñata!
Candy's for everyone!!!

Once everything cleared , the water fight began!  So much water everywhere! No waterproof camera! You had to be there! We thought we had it made with water pistols...We didn't expect cups and Buckets!!!
We came home so happy, but totally drenched!

The next day we attended a Beach Party for the YSA. (Young Single Adults)
They had a picnic on the beach. We roasted Chicken Sausages. (As close as it gets to hot dogs!)

They enjoyed making a beach fire and for many it was the first time to roast a sausage over a flame...We laughed as they became startled when the  sausage skin popped.
The sausages were white but tasted sort of like a weiner.
Sand turtles..
sand fish and shells...

The Elders did a work project in Vuna ...It turned out to be a wet project! The brought in dirt to level the land around the bush chapel.

Service  project. treats...

Suva sent over Patriarch Sefette to teach a class for those who will teach institute and seminary to our youth on the Island of Taveuni.

A very large tree became rotten in the middle and fell between two houses.
It had to be cut down . This provided fire wood for the village for along time.

It was good that no one was hurt.

Elder Vermeeren stands beside a branch to show how big the tree was.

It will take a long time to cut up small enough pieces to move it.

There is a beautiful variety of butterflies here.

These are breadfruit trees. The fruit when fried tastes very much like french fried potatoes.

This is the lemon fruit from the tree in our yard.

This is the deck of our house. It is like a beach house.

This photo was taken off our deck at sunset.

These are the senior training sisters arriving on the plane.

Our sisters were pleased to have guests.

Elder Mclean and Elder Dunn visit with Elder Vermeeren.

Happy children enjoy their last few days of summer break. School starts again on Tuesday.

Enjoying a mango for breakfast...

This boy is gathering breadfruit for lunch.

This is a flower  we saw in the sand on the beach.
This man rides past our house on his way home from working on the farm.
