Greetings from Fiji
Happy Birthday Today to Randy and Roman! We hope you have a wonderful Day!
We are slowly getting used to the peaceful, laid back island of Taveuni.. We seem to have new adventures daily , our lives and perspectives are changing.
The Somosomo Primary School ad the Fireman visit them .
The ocean water comes over the roads on rainy days , great way to get a car wash .
Rocks and sand wash up on the roads.
Back to the Fireman Demo. It is hilarious to see the barefoot fireman run and jump into their gear.
The kids are very attentive.
They all burst into laughter when the water started to spray!
After school they just strip down naked and go for a swim......
They didn't even seem to mind me taking a picture! They love having their picture taken.
This is a secondary school. The Humanitarian division of our church will be donating desks early next month they are very excited to get them. They will come by Ferry boat.
This is my "Bushman" They call men who provide food and prepare it for market.
We visited a family where the eight year old was holding a coconut for his 11 year old brother , he is now minus an index finger!
The real bushman do not use a hammer and a chisel to do this ...They have a much bigger sharper tool.
When Mama is busy selling produce babies and little children play under the stand.
They weave containers to display there goods. These are taro plants. Their version of potatoes.
Coconuts going to market.
We don't need an alarm clock here. Seems most folks are up with the light about 5:30 and down with the sun. After the sun sets you cannot see your hand in front of your face. It sets about 6:30 ish.
General Conference, a semi annual meeting of our church, will never be the same! We attended two weeks after it happened in theVuna branch. We brought the generator and television.
Everybody pitched in. Once we had it running we had to make one little adjustment.......
The sisters brought live flowers...
The friendly neighborhood dog attended
But ... we had to move the generator behind the outhouse so we could hear the speakers over the generators.
We had to listen carefully as the rain started to pour on the tin roof!
The boys like to play in the rain....
Boys will be boys...Just like home!
Awesome , sweet sisters....I have been asked to teach the ladies to bake cookies!!!!Interesting. I will be demonstrating on a 18" gas oven????
Everyone is always so happy here!
This is one of the smaller branches on the island.
Another incredible ocean baptism at Matei Branch!
People were so excited to see conference we were there from 8:30 a.m to 3:30 pm . Only the children had a small lunch. How grateful we have become for the abundance we have always enjoyed!
