October 27th

Relief Society Sister's create journal covers for conference notes, Rotary Club Eye Surgeons
 and Optometrists visit Taveuni,Elders having way to much fun....
Somosomo Branch meets in the largest building in Taveuni, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel. It is the largest Branch in Taveuni.

The sisters meet one evening each month to make, bake or enjoy an evening of enrichment together so they can learn ideas to become better homemakers.

Sister Singh is our volunteer instructor for this evening.

The sisters choose pieces of fabric from a box of saved fabric leftovers.

What a Blessing for the people of Taveuni!
The Rotary Club has come to Taveuni with Eye Surgeons and optometrists.They come every second year to perform surgeries. We were told of a little four year old boy who was blind from birth was able to see after his surgery.


They performed 160 Cataract and Pterygium surgeries.

This is Michael Prasaud . He is originally from Labasa. He puts together several specialists from around the world to come to Taveuni. 

The Rotary Club pays their way over and they volunteer their services.

Their is a surgical suite in Taveuni's little hospital that is used only when volunteer Doctors  come.

We came very early in the morning, People were already arriving.



Eye examinations were also performed.

Portable equipment was used.

While we were there a pickup truck made a delivery to the mortuary.

"Taveuni Island Rocks."..Actually it is built on Volcanic rock.
Note the little red blossoms in the tree.

The children are waiting for the bus. The bus picks them up between 6:15 and 6:30 every morning for school. 

As soon as they see my camera they run over to get in a photograph , then they say vinaka or thank you .



These workers are about 30 feet up on a scaffold . They we eager to be photographed. 



Elder Noble teaches us about Pride!

Every school has uniforms in their colours. the children always look clean and neat,.Most do not have indoor plumbing or running water.

A reward for passing their flat inspection. The Elders must keep their Flats clean . Elder Vermeeren did inspections today. Cleanliness is next to Godliness!!!

The Alafi family are a wonderful Family. President Alafi is  helping us distribute water barrels to everyone in Vuna.  This is his Daughter and Grandchild.

This is Sister Alafi. She always teases that she has white blood because she is so eager to make improvements and get things done .


Most pigs just run free , This one may be waiting to go to market.

These birds seemed to have a game going on. They would pin one bird down , them let him up again.

Little Angela is number nine baby. Her mom went to Suva to have her.

Elder Jonutz and Elder Barnaby teaching from The Book of Mormon, another witness of Jesus Christ. They teach from  both the Bible and The book of Mormon, as they compliment each other, providing more clarity.

Another Family welcome their new little boy!  That makes three Boys.
